Instructional Technology

IMG_8824_smallCalvin Christian strives to deliver an excellent education, so using instructional technology effectively has been a priority since the 1990s.  Over the past 10 years Calvin has opened a high school with a 1:1 laptop program, outfitted computer labs at both K-8 campuses, purchased Chromebooks for use in middle school, provided desktop computers and iPads in the elementary grades, and installed interactive whiteboards in K-8 classrooms.  In 2013, a high level wi-fi network was installed at all three campuses.

Calvin Christian School incorporates the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) as a guide for what students should know and be able to do. We work to ensure that each student achieves technology literacy by the end of 8th grade.  The 1:1 program at the high school allows each student to continue to have access to the computer-based information and tools they need to support their learning.

The technological tools available to students and teachers have a significant impact on learning, including the use of Google apps in the 6-12 program, Aleks math in the 8-12 program, Lexia Learning in the K-3 program, and online geometry courses for select 8th grade students. Students have access to online learning resources when they are at home.  A portal called ParentsWeb allows parents to track their child’s assignments and academic progress and stay informed about school events and schedules.
