Middle School Language Arts

Grade 6:  integrated reading, writing, grammar, and spelling; short stories and selected novels, such as Tuck Everlasting, The Witch of Blackbird Pond, Where the Red Fern Grows; writing includes Geography Fair paper, journals, fantasy writing, interview, business letter, essay, poetry, book review/summary; independent reading—three hours per week.

 

Grade 7:  integrated reading, writing, grammar, and spelling; short stories, poetry, and selected novels, such as The Giver, Across Five Aprils, The Bronze Bow; writing includes Science Fair research paper, fables, journals, poetry, persuasive essay, and book reports; independent reading.

 

Grade 8:  integrated reading, writing, grammar, and spelling; short stories and selected novels, such as Light in the Forest, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Hiding Place; writing includes History Day research paper, personal narratives, myths, journals, devotional writing, essays, book review, and poetry; independent reading.
