Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. I love the themes in this book; the friendship and sacrifices of Wilbur and Charlotte. I also love how Wilbur overcame his “runt” stereotype to become radiant and magnificent.
Favorite scripture verse:
Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Favorite thing about working at CCS:
Having worked in many different teaching environments—public, charter, montessori, and even homeschooling—my favorite part of working at Calvin is how God is interwoven into everything that happens here. God is the center of our decisions, teaching and learning. Teaching with God in the forefront frees me to do His will to help guide every student that enters my classroom. The assurance that each student matters to our Lord inspires me to give my best in teaching for every child.
Favorite learning activity:
I look forward to implementing more primary resources into my history classrooms each year. Primary resources are the photographs, letters, speeches, political cartoons, newspapers, and so much more of the people who experienced the event we are studying in the class. These resources personalize the details of the events and help the student to analyze, synthesize, and hypothesize using actual data from that time period. Students want to go beyond dates and names in His-Story and implementing primary resources helps achieve that.
Favorite student quote:
“I didn’t know that history could actually be this fun!”
Fun or fascinating fact:
I feel closest to God when I am worshiping Him with song. I love to sing praises to Him at church, home and you will even see me singing in my car. I really love watching children worship the Lord with music because they are so uninhibited in their praise. (P.S. I also love penguins!)
