Mrs. Katie Abbring teaches K-8th grade art. She has a bachelor of arts degree from Calvin College, where she majored in art education and minored in biology. She also has an M.A. in Education from Hamline University.
That’s hard to choose. I read a lot! I read all the Maud Hart Lovelace Books, and I loved Okay for Now by Gary Schmidt. (It also helps that I took a literature class from Gary Schmidt at Calvin College, and I have an autographed copy of the book!)
Favorite scripture verse:
Philippians 4:6-7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Favorite thing about working at CCS:
I get to teach my favorite subject to students in a way that points to the beauty of creation and the reflection of the Ultimate Creator in every student.
Favorite learning activity:
I love teaching students how to look more closely at creation and revel in the amazing designs by our Creator. You realize the complexity of God’s creation when you try to draw a small piece of it yourself.
Favorite student quotes:
After receiving some art back from the beginning of the year, a first grade student said, “This looks like a kindergartener made it!” because he was surprised he had improved so much throughout the course of the year.
An eighth grade student wrote in a thank you card, “You have truly inspired my love for art.”
