Mrs. Sandi Olson teaches 2nd grade. She has a Bachelor of Science in Education from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. Since graduating from Dordt, she has taken many additional courses in education.
The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes. It is a children’s classic that helps students see how our words and actions toward others can be a source of encouragement and healing or a source of harm and pain.
Favorite scripture verse:
Micah 6:8: “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” These words are ones that I strive to live by from day to day.
Favorite thing about working at CCS:
What I enjoy most about working at Calvin is the people. My fellow staff members are great, CCS parents are helpful and supportive, and the children are terrific.
Favorite learning activity:
I look forward to teaching many different learning activities throughout the school year such as Concentrated Study and our fall discovery-based, story-based Wampanoag unit.
Favorite student quote:
My favorite student quote was spoken while a second grade student was sharing during his turn to be Star Student. He told the class that he wanted to be a professional hockey player when he grew up. When asked what he would do if that did not work out, he said he would be a professional baseball player. And, if that did not work out, he would just be a dad.
Fun or fascinating fact:
I love to teach writing to children. When children experience the joy of hearing great works by professional writers and are given the chance to learn and use effective writing tools, they can produce great writing of their own!
